THUNDER - Tailored Hybrid system for efficent capture conversion of carbon Dioxyde to methanol under mild conditions

2025-2029
THUNDER aims to develop a new integrated approach for the direct capture and conversion of CO₂ into methanol under mild conditions, combining innovative materials and hybrid catalytic processes. The project merges polymeric membranes, advanced catalysts, and hybrid electro-/thermocatalytic systems to demonstrate a one-pot, energy-efficient, and sustainable CO₂-to-MeOH process. Politecnico di Torino (POL) leads WP1 – Development of Innovative Membranes and Catalysts, focusing on the design and synthesis of anion-exchange membranes based on intrinsically microporous polymers (PIMs) and functional ionomers that provide high CO₂ selectivity, ionic stability, and compatibility with the catalysts developed by the consortium.
